This has been an exciting year for the Thompson Ice House, as along with continued maintenance of the old buildings and equipment, a new building has appeared on site! After careful research and consultation, the building was constructed and completed just in time for the annual ice harvest. The new building will house exhibits, including old tools and items for sale, as well as a video presentation about ice harvesting.
On February 14th of 2016, hundreds of people braved exceptionally cold temperatures to help harvest ice on Thompson Pond. After an unusual winter of erratic temperatures and lots of local concern about the thickness of the ice, Mother Nature brought in rather severe cold just in time for the harvest. Brave folks of all ages enjoyed this annual event despite the unfortunate wind chill. RESCHEDULED Ice Harvest March 12: 9am – 3pm.
